Where It all Began

I grew up in a humble middle-class home in Odisha, Eastern India.

Back then, candles weren’t about self-care or aesthetics. They were practical — part of our everyday life during frequent power cuts. When electricity disappeared for hours, candles quietly showed up.

I didn’t know it then, but those small flames were teaching me something about resilience, calm, and presence.

From Corporate to Quiet

Two decades of speed

I became a software engineer and spent nearly two decades working across India, the UK, the USA, Africa, and the UAE — leading digital transformation initiatives on a global scale.

I valued the work and the impact.

But as roles grew bigger and expectations louder, life began to feel relentless. Titles expanded. Income improved. Yet somewhere along the way, I felt disconnected from the quiet joy of creating something tangible and meaningful.

I wasn’t unhappy with my career. I was simply longing for quiet joy and fulfilment.

RETURN TO CREATING

I’ve always been creative at heart — an artist, a dancer, a musician, a builder.

Post-pandemic, the urge to slow down became impossible to ignore. I began looking for a way to live more intentionally, even if it meant earning less, but living more. — with space for creativity, family, and presence.

That’s when candles found me again.

Not as a necessity this time — but as a language.

I just didn’t yet know what form that life would take.

Candle-making was never a grand plan.
It started quietly, during a season of reflection.

As I explored it, I realised how deeply candles aligned with what I was seeking — warmth, softness, and a sense of grounding.

Creating them by hand felt meditative, honest, and deeply personal.

Choosing this path came with fear.

Fear of failure.
Fear of judgement.
Fear of walking away from a “successful” 20-year corporate career.
Walking away from certainty always does.

But for the first time in a long while, the fear felt worth it.

That trust — in the process, in the timing — gave birth to Niraea.

A little bit more about the founder

I’m Swati.

A software engineer by training and a creator by heart, I hold a master’s degree from IE Business School, Madrid. Over nearly two decades, I’ve worked across corporate technology and finance, leading digital transformation initiatives for global brands including Tata, Sony Pictures, and Prudential Plc.

Along the way, I’ve had the opportunity to lead award-winning teams and was recognised with honours such as the Outstanding Women in Tech award.

These experiences shaped how I think, build, and pay attention to detail — and today, that same clarity flows into Niraea, where creativity, and technology quietly supports a slower, more mindful way of living.
